2016 Draft Kit

15 RBI kings to build around in 2010

Fantasy baseball projectionists are, uh, projecting far fewer 100-RBI hitters than you might expect for 2010.

Only seven players drove in 100 in all three sets of projections reviewed for this article. The number is  surprising considering 32 players drove in 99 or more in 2009.

So, these top six guys, consider them a lock to reach the milestone.

Players are listed with position, team and average draft position:

Albert Pujols, 1B, Cardinals (1.10) — Not surprisingly, Pujols has been at or near the top of every offensive list so far. 100 RBIs? Yeah, he’ll do that easy.

Ryan Howard, 1B, Phillies  (10.27) — The Philadelphia slugger was ranked sixth in one set of projections but was first in the other two. If you were drafting in an RBI-only league, nobody’d argue if you took Howard over Pujols.

Prince Fielder, 1B, Brewers (8.45) — Did you read what was written about Howard, same applies here.

Mark Teixeira, 1B, Yankees (7.50) — The first basemen they just keep on coming.

Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Tigers (10.28) — It surprised me that Cabrera was unanimous. He’s a great hitter, but doesn’t always get the credit he deserves on draft day.

Ryan Braun, OF, Brewers (4.90) — How did this outfielder get in our first base po… Oh.

Several other hitters were ranked on two of the lists, just missing the cut to be elite: Alex Rodriguez, 3B, Yankees; Matt Holliday, OF, Cardinals; Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, Padres; David Wright, 3B, Mets; Justin Mourneau, 1B, Twins; Jason Bay, OF, Red Sox; Evan Longoria, 3B, Rays; Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Nationals; Carlos Lee, OF, Astros.

In 2009, 28 players had 100 RBIs:

141-122 RBIs

Fielder, Howard, Pujols, Teixeira

119-111 RBIs

Bay; Braun; Adam Lind, OF, Blue Jays; Longoria; Derek Lee, 1B, Cubs

109-105 RBIs

Holliday, Kendry Moralez, 1B, Angels; Victor Martinez, C, Indians-Red Sox; Aaron Hill, 2B, Blue Jays;  Hanley Ramirez, SS, Marlins; Zimmerman; Andre Ethier, OF, Dodgers; Adam Dunn, 1B, Nationals

104-100 RBIs

Cabrera; Jason Kubel, OF, Twins; Bobby Abreu, OF, Angels; Carlos Lee; Mark Reynolds, 3B, Diamondbacks; Matt Kemp, OF, Dodgers; Nick Markakis, OF, Orioles; Jorge Cantu, 1B-3B, Marlins; Alex Rodriguez; Mourneau; Carlos Pena, 1B, Rays

This is the sixth post in a series. The other posts feature the top players in home runs, steals, runs for hitters and strikeouts and wins for pitchers.
