2011 NFL Draft Player Spotlight: DJ Williams

This is a look at who I feel is the best tight end prospect in the 2011 draft class, DJ Williams.

DJ Williams is a 6’2″ 245 pound senior from the Arkansas Razorbacks.  He was the 2010 John Mackey Award winner given out annually to the best college tight end.  He also received the 2010 Disney Spirit Award for being an inspirational person both on and off the field.  You can hear about the Disney Spirit Award here.

After watching both those highlight reels myself, here is my take on DJ Williams.  To me he clearly is the best talent among this draft class of tight ends.  If you pay close attention to the run plays, Williams is probably clearly the best blocking tight end to come out in quite some time.  Many TD runs were sprung off his blocking.

Not only is he a great blocker, he is a tremendous receiver.  DJ Williams finished just two receptions short of the Arkansas career all time receptions record.  He can catch the ball in traffic and his 4.67 40 yard dash time at the combine showed off the great speed that he has.  He truly is the complete package at tight end.

His only downside is his 6’2″ frame, but DJ makes up for that deficiency with hard work ethic and determination.

Here are his college statistics:
