Boom or bust PPR running back projections for NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round

Most of the intro on the standard running back projections focused on the big-name stars at the top of the list.

But there’s a good chance some unheralded players will have unexpected performances that could win people a lot of money in daily fantasy this weekend.

Let’s talk about three of those high-variance plays.

Ronnie Hillman is the second member of a committee in Denver, but despite that he comes in at No. 6 in the PPR running back rankings. In his first game since Week 10, Hillman was given 15 carries and he gained 56 yards. C.J. Anderson is the better back, but if the game turns into a Broncos blowout I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hillman finish with more fantasy points this week.

Trent Richardson was surpassed by Zurlon Tipton. Last week, Tipton was impressive while spelling Dan Herron. Tipton is minimum cost at Draft Kings. That means he needs 90 total yards or 30 yards and a touchdown or 3 catches and 60 total yards to pay off his salary against a Broncos defense that has allowed 31 PPR fantasy points per game to running backs in the last three weeks.

Las Vegas expects the Seahawks to win by 11.5 points over the Panthers — a bona fide playoff blowout. If the game gets out of hand, Robert Turbin could see a lot of carries in relief of Marshawn Lynch. Turbin got 10 and 11 carries respectively in weeks 16 and 17. Like Tipton, Turbin is minimum priced at Draft Kings so he only needs nine fantasy points to become an excellent value.
