Boom or bust PPR wide receiver projections for NFL Playoffs: Divisonal Round

Just like we did in the PPR running back projections, let’s talk about some high-variance players who might be able to make a difference in big field tournaments or GPPs.

We’re spitballing here. Trying to pick out some potential hidden gems that could win us a lot of  money this weekend.

The Ravens give up yards and fantasy points to all wide receiver types, making Brian Tyms an interesting choice. Tyms only had catches in two games this season. He caught a 43-yard touchdown pass in Week 6 and in Week 17 he caught 4-of-6 targets for 39 yards. Again, this is a long shot, but Tyms costs just $3,000 at Draft Kings. So it wouldn’t take much more than a repeat of that 4-39 game to pay off his salary.

Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Paul Richardson have an interesting opportunity. The Seahawks aren’t expected to throw for many yards and the Panthers don’t give up a lot of fantasy points to wide receivers (28.3 per game in the last five games) but they give up decent yardage to all wide receiver types. A player like Kearse — or even Ricardo Lockette — can turn a big gainer into six points. Baldwin is the most consistent player and a playable PPR option. His salary, $4,500 reflects it. Kearse and Richardson are both $3,200. Lockette costs $3,000. He has 11 catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns this season. His game logs are interesting, too. He had two catches for 38 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. He caught a 39-yard touchdown in Week 3 and had a 48-yard catch in Week 12.

The Broncos allow 54.9 yards per game to opposing wide receivers third or lower on the depth chart. There’s some turmoil among the IND receiving ranks with Reggie Wayne showing his age. I like to think Donte Moncrief is the new No. 2 and Hakeem Nicks is the No. 3. Any or all three of the receivers should be able to take advantage of the matchup if given the opportunity. Moncrief is the most expensive of the bunch on Draft Kings, coming in at just $3,600, so it wouldn’t take an outlandish game for any of them to reach value expectations.
