Boom or bust team defense (D/ST) projections for NFL Playoffs Week 1

Every week and just about every other post I warn you about these boom-or-bust projections. They’re based on statistics and matchups and don’t always jive with how I might rank players exactly.

They are meant to help point us in directions we may not normally travel.

And so we end up with the Cincinnati Bengals — the cheapest team on Draft Kings ($1,900) by a landslide as our top team defense this week.

In this case I will also say that they will be my most owned defense this week.

I’ll probably rock the Panthers in a couple lineups and the Colts in a few but I’m all-in on the Bengals. Andrew Luck has thrown nine interceptions on his half of the field this season, increasing the pick-six risk, and he is projected for the most interceptions this week. The Bengals are tied for first in projected fumbles recovered and are tied with the Cardinals for second in touchdown opportunity (23%).

UPDATE – JAN. 3

Be sure to check out this post at Rotogrinders which has me considering starting the Panthers defense in a lot of lineups this weekend.
