Catching sleepers at the catcher position in 2010

The drama caused by my unpopular catching strategy is still being talked about at the chinstrap ninja headquarters water cooler on a fairly regular basis.

You know … the one where I suggested investing in a catcher in the top portion of your fantasy draft.

Well, knowing that most of the fantasy baseball crowd is as oppositional-defiant and as procrastination-prone as I am, I felt it necessary to look a little deeper into some true sleeper catcher options that you can load up on in the late, late rounds of your respective drafts.

A couple to consider include … Continue reading ‘Catching sleepers at the catcher position in 2010′

Fantasy baseball player overview: Looking forward to Heyward

Perhaps it is cabin fever or just needing to get excited about something this spring, but have you checked out Atlanta Braves rookie outfielder Jason Heyward?

The dude is 6-foot-4, 220 pounds and can mutilate a baseball better than OreIda can mash a potato.

Not impressed? Check this out: Continue reading ‘Fantasy baseball player overview: Looking forward to Heyward’

Dynasty Debate: The next elite crop of fantasy RBs

Think sliced bread, indoor plumbing and Chia Pets are special?

You ain’t seen nothing yet.

We’re on the verge of experiencing something truly amazing in 2010 and beyond. There’s a new stable of able running backs in the NFL, and you can thank an opportunistic bunch of rookie 2009 backs for giving us what will be quite a good show in the coming months and years … and for giving us something to debate right now.

So, which of the the following young backs will be the next elite fantasy force? Let the debating begin … Continue reading ‘Dynasty Debate: The next elite crop of fantasy RBs’

Fantasy baseball: Mistake breeds two bonus end-game sleepers

Sometimes mistakes aren’t all that bad.

We’re not reinventing penicillin here, but stumbling across two sleepers while doing research that really had no beginning point is one of those beneficial mistakes.

While reviewing my elite 5×5 hitters post I mistakenly thought Rays outfielders Carl Crawford and BJ Upton were each expected to score 100 runs. The question, then, which hitter will benefit in the RBI category?

The truth is, Crawford and Upton are 30-steal locks. The only players that benefit from that are Crawford and Upton.

Luckily for us, I didn’t realize my mistake until after most of the research had been done. Two Rays players stood out as potential super values in 2010 drafts. Continue reading ‘Fantasy baseball: Mistake breeds two bonus end-game sleepers’

Who’s setting the table for Brewers sluggers?

While reviewing the elite 5×5 hitters, I stumbled across many interesting findings.

Several deserved even further research. Having both Brewers 1B Prince Fielder and OF Ryan Braun as elite RBI producers was near the top.

Both Braun and Fielder are stars. They’ll probably drive in themselves with their elite 30+-homer power, but they are going to need some help. Continue reading ‘Who’s setting the table for Brewers sluggers?’

Geovany Soto should be your catcher in 2010

Joe Mauer is the best catcher in fantasy baseball, but unlike my colleague I can’t recommend picking him.

Last year was Mauer’s ceiling, or at least a few inches from it. Nobody should have to tell you that paying for a career year is a bad investment.

To put it another way, it’s a bad risk. But the Cubs’ Geovany Soto is good risk. Continue reading ‘Geovany Soto should be your catcher in 2010′
