A quick look at 2010 fantasy designated hitters

Drafting a “designated hitter” is similar to cleaning the toilet.
It’s a job you want to do as little as possible.

And for good reason. The position, if it can be called that, is filled with aging, injury-prone players who continue to demand a sizeable paycheck based on the glory days and not the present day.

Ignoring these players in your draft could come back to haunt you … much like that toilet you keep ignoring.

But it isn’t a good idea to overspend on these guys, either.

Baseball notes 2.11.10: Lots of Wang, Damon close to a home?

Yawned about 20 times just compiling the information for this post, the only saving grace is Chien-Ming Wang’s last name.

It’s about writing this in the early morning hours and contemplating the headlines: Dodgers want Wang, Nationals looking at Wang. Yes, it’s juvenile, but even hardened newshounds like myself still get a chuckle when a person/place/thing provides a harmless but comical wordplay smorgasbord like this.

Even the actual headline — Wang to choose new club in 7-10 days — brings a smile.

Beware reader because this pitcher is going to be in the news the next couple of days. He is the last top-line free agent pitcher yet to sign and should be able to throw off a mound very soon. However, despite all the headlines he’ll grab and whatever analysis you hear, you don’t really want Wang on your fantasy team. (What? IT’S HIS NAME. What do you want me to do?) Baseball notes: Buzz for Brantley; Surgery for Lee

Youngster Michael Brantley has appeared on some radars, but mostly he’s been like a stealth bomber — half a blip here, no blips there.

Word out of Cleveland now is that Brantley is the lead dog for the Indians’ left field spot.

Playing time, friends, is what every player needs to succeed. Ok, they need talent and focus, too, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here. Baseball stats don’t always carry over run-for-run from minors to majors, but Brantley’s best minor league performances are Ellsbury-lite-esque. Fantasy baseball: Ready for the playoffs?

Not a whole lot of super exciting news in baseball today, but it is time to get your rosters ready for a late playoff run, or a run into the roto money.

Head-to-head league playoffs are just a couple weeks away and roto leaguers need to make serious moves now if they want to advance.

If the Chinstrap Ninjas can provide one nugget to help you gain one spot in your roto league, or top Elmer in the mailroom (how did he end up with that team!) this week to lock up a playoff spot, that’s what we’re here for.

Maybe all we’ll do is give you cellar-dwellers some advice for 2010 keeper options to snag off the wire now. Either way, I gobbled up some news this morning, this is it:
