Chinstrap Ninjas 2011-2012 fantasy football contest: Playoffs Week 3 lineups, Playoffs Week 2 results

Hey, Ninjas, it was another great week for our fantasy football contest. The race to the top is proving to be a great one. We have another lead change. This thing is turning into a Saints-49ers, last 4 minutes shootout.

As always, read on to find out what happened in the contest this week or skip to the comments and post your lineup for the Conference Championship round of the 2011-2012 NFL playoffs.

Team Name Here’s 32 points were enough to leapfrog Dante Bruno (25 points this week) in the overall standings. Team Name leads 135-134.

Purple Coconuts took our Playoffs Week 2 title, starting this week’s top scorer, Tom Brady, and two other point-earners to score 40 points. The bounty was enough to help Purple Coconuts jump from 7th overall to solidly in third place overall with 99 points.

Drew Brees’ 462-yard, 4-TD performance on Saturday was overshadowed by Brady on Sunday, stealing away a 15-point play from Cartisimo.

Schizo Smurfs started Rob Gronwkowski to earn 10 points this week.

Top performers last week:

Quarterback

Tom Brady led all scorers with 37.32 fantasy points. He threw for 363 yards and six touchdowns, including five in the first half. It was a ridiculous performance. Take a moment to realize the Hall-of-Fame QBs we are watching right now. Brady outscored Drew Brees, who threw for 462 yards, four TDs, an interception, and a two-point conversion to finish with 32.98 fantasy points.

Running backs

For the second consecutive week, Arian Foster led all running backs and Darren Sproles was second. Foster rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 22 yards. Sproles, on his way to setting a receptions record, caught 15 of 19 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed three times for three yards. He scored on the Brees two-point pass but also lost a fumble. Foster scored 21.4 points and Sproles scored 18.2

Wide receivers

Continuing a strong postseason for wide receiver, Hakeem Nicks nearly scored 30 points, catching seven passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He finished with 28.5 fantasy points. Marques Colston was the No. 2 wide receiver, scoring 19.6 points on a nine-catch, 136-yards-and-a-touchdown performance.

Tight ends

While it’s been a strong postseason for wide receivers, it’s been an insane one for tight ends. Last weekend, Rob Gronkowski led the way with 10 catches, 145 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with 32.5 fantasy points. Vernon Davis, who helped lead the 49ers into the conference championship, caught seven passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. He scored 30 points. Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez didn’t score any points for owners in our contest, but had performances worth noting. Graham caught five passes, two of them for touchdowns, and accumulated 103 yards. Aaron Hernandez caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown and rushed five times for 61 yards.

SPECIAL PLAYOFF RULES

These rules won’t take effect until after Week 17′a games are complete, but rest assured that you’ll want to stick around because things are going to get crazy:

Every team that participates after Week 17 (beginning with Playoffs Week 1) will receive five points just for playing every week. Post a lineup in every week of the playoffs through the Super Bowl and get a longevity bonus of five extra points. That means a team that posts a lineup in all four weeks will earn 25 points just for playing. We recognize and reward sticktoitiveness at Chinstrap Ninjas.

Other bonuses:

  • 10 bonus points for starting a week’s top overall scorer. (Example: In Week 16 last year, Aaron Rodgers was started by Chickenheads&Pigeons and was the top point scorer. In the playoffs his performance would be worth 15 points, not just five.) This could be a real game-breaking jackpot. However, there will be far fewer players to choose from each week and there will likely be several “hits,” especially once we get to the conference championships and Super Bowl. Should be interesting.
  • The Pro Bowl does count toward this competition.
  • Last year we awarded one bonus point for Tough-Luck Award winners. This year, Tough-Lucks have been worth one point all season. Since we’ve upped the ante elsewhere, let’s award another point. So, in the playoffs, runners-up are worth two points.
  • Of course regular season bonuses still stand, so selecting multiple correct responses will get you the usual bonuses.

Post a lineup for Playoffs Week 2 in the comments. It’s never too late to join up.

    @Dante

GL to you too. I know what you mean about the Pats.. I was born in Wareham (on the canal) and my family is still out in Hyannis. My first NFL game was going up to Foxboro (and don’t let anyone give you that Foxborough stuff) in 1983. The Fish had a kid named Marino starting at QB.. he lost! Mmmmwhahaha!
