Week 5 was a tough week for contestants. Only three teams earned any points, including Ninja Combat Class, who scored their first points of the contest.
Streaks were broken, but we have a new point scorer and two other teams moved into contention for the overall points race. Let that be your reminder: It only takes one good week to become a contender. The contest is open to everyone, make your picks in the comments section.
Sinister Frat Party, who had scored in every week of the contest, was one of the unlucky many who couldn’t select any of the top fantasy players at their position this week. Roving Kittens, who had a streak of their own going, also came empty like the rest of us.
On a week like this all three scorers deserve some recognition. All three picked quarterbacks correctly. Yep, quarterback(S).
Chickenheads and Pigeons played Tony Romo to earn five points and move into the top five in the overall standings. CandP is the only team with an active picks streak of more than one week, having picked players correctly two weeks in a row.
You’ve Ben Violated and Ninja Combat Class each chose Philip Rivers. Violated moves into the overall top 10 and Combat joins 14 other teams who have one correct response this season.
This week’s top performers:
Tony Romo and Philip Rivers each scored 22 fantasy points this week. Both probably would trade all of their statistics for wins. Romo threw for a career-high 406 yards. He also tossed three interceptions to go with his three TDs. Rivers threw for 431 yards and two scores. He didn’t throw an interception but lost two fumbles. Runner up: Shaun Hill, 21 points.
With Jay Cutler on the mend, the Bears decided to hand the ball off like the Bears teams of old. Matt Forte took advantage, scoring 30 fantasy points. Forte rushed 22 times for 166 yards and two TDs and added two catches for 22 yards. It’s official, Carolina has no run defense. Runner up: Ray Rice, 27 points.
It should surprise nobody that our top receiver, Malcom Floyd, was catching passes from one of our top quarterbacks. Floyd caught 8 of 10 targets for 213 yards and a touchdown, scoring 27 points. Runner up: Brandon Lloyd, Hakeem Nicks (tie), 25 points.
Nobody picked Marcedes Lewis this week, but it might be time to start considering him. Maybe someone reminded David Garrard and Jack Del Rio that Lewis was picked in the first round of the 2006 draft to catch passes. Right now, all he’s catching are touchdowns. For fantasy owners, that’s perfect. Lewis was targeted five times, caught four of them for 45 yards and two of them went for touchdowns. He finished with 17 points. Runner up: Vernon Davis, 16 points.
Here’s how everyone picked in Week 5:

Last week CJones and his TDs ‘N Beer team missed the cutoff for the Sunday games but threw out four great options from the Monday night contest. The rules set the deadline at 1p.m. EST Sunday, but that brings up a good point.
Since we’re doing this for fun/bragging rights and no money, I’m modifying the rules. Anyone who misses the 1 p.m. deadline can select players from the Sunday night and/or Monday night games as long as they make the selections before the games start.
Rules reminder: The entire NFL universe is eligible. Only the top scoring quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end will score points for your teams. Weekly points breakdown reminder:
- Get one pick at QB, RB, WR or TE correct = 5 points
- Get two picks in the same week correct = 15 points (two correct choices +5 bonus points)
- Get three picks in the same week correct = 25 points (three correct choices +10 bonus points)
- Get all four picks correct = 35 points (four correct choices +15 bonus points)

As we mentioned above, make your Week 6 picks in the comments. If you get all four right it would be enough points to put you in the lead for the overall title based on the current standings. Get three right and you’d move into second place. Good luck.
