2016 Draft Kit

Draft Kings daily fantasy baseball starting pitcher rankings for Monday, April 27

We have an interesting predicament today.

Our top two pitchers are facing off against each other in San Diego.

I can’t recommend starting both James Shields and Collin McHugh in the same lineup, but I wouldn’t mock it.

For me, today’s slate is about figuring out which pitcher I want to pair with Shields. He tops our charts any way you slice the numbers. It’ll probably be between David Price or Jason Hammel. Price is a much safer pick, but he’s going to cost $3,000 more. You can improve a lot of hitters with $3,000.

Dillon Gee is an option too. I just wish he had a higher strikeout upside.

Here are today’s pitcher rankings:

Gee might be the best value play of the bunch, but, again, the strikeouts are a concern.

It’s not a play for the weak of heart, but Adam Warren, $4,300 and Jason Marquis, $4,700 are both sub-$5,000 pitchers facing teams that have struck out seventh-most and fifth-most, respectively, so far this season. If one of them surprises — Vote for Warren: Las Vegas thinks the Yankees are the seventh-most likely team to win today; Vote for Marquis: He is seventh on our upside chart — they give you a huge edge up on virtually everyone else in your tournament.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Cole Hamels pitches well. St. Louis doesn’t strike out much and Las Vegas has no confidence the Phillies are going to win today, but the game is also tied for the lowest over/under of the day at 6.5.

Jimmy Nelson is sixth on our upside chart and just outside of the top-10 in our overall rankings. If he wasn’t pitching in Great American Ballpark I’d recommend him.

Good luck today and every day.
