There are some true stud receivers in the NFL right now. You’ll likely find the same guys among the top-8 across the fantasy football industry.
We start to vary from the crowd quite a bit around the top-10 range, where we have Julian Edelman, Jarvis Landry and Jordan Matthews.
Meanwhile, we have T.Y. Hilton buried at 19th. It’s not that we think Hilton is bad. On the contrary, he’s quite good, on a great offense. If you drafted him you have to start him. However, playing against Buffalo knocks him down a few spots on our board. The Bills had the most efficient defense against the pass in 2014, according to Football Outsiders’ Defense-adjusted Value Over Average.
Edelman gets to face Pittsburgh, Landry gets Washington and Jordan Matthews gets Atlanta, the three worst defenses against the pass in 2014, according to DVOA.
Yeah, yeah, going by last year’s stats is a recipe for disaster. However, because DVOA looks at efficiency and effectiveness rather than statistics it becomes a much better predictor of future success than fantasy points allowed, which is the industry standard for the overrated preseason strength of schedule metric.
We created our SoS list using DVOA. Check out our full chart here.
As with any rankings or advice, you want to check player statuses right up until game time. We’re never always right and players can be scratched from lineups unexpectedly.
