We kick off Week 11 like we have every week this season, with a look at the schedule and links to the weather.
But first, I just wanted to take a few minutes and thank you for reading Chinstrap Ninjas. We’ve had a good season. I hope you’ve been using our rankings and advice. The research has led me to a lot of success both in season long and in daily fantasy.
Last week was a rough one, at least for me, in daily fantasy. We knocked it out of the park with Kirk Cousins and Jordan Reed, but we had quite a few duds. It’s going to happen. The nice thing is, a lot of people had rostered those same duds and will avoid them this week, giving us extra opportunity.
Don’t let Mother Nature mess it up. There are severe storms — featuring tornadoes — in the Middle of the US today and blizzard-like conditions in Colorado. Flooding is possible in Pennsylvania Wednesday night into Thursday. Those thunderstorms and nearly a half an inch of rain are expected in Jacksonville on game day Thursday.
Weather can have a profound effect on fantasy baseball, even washing out half a slate of games completely.
It’s rare weather that wipes an NFL game off the schedule, but clear skies, high winds, rain, snow and cold can have positive and negative affects on skill positions across the board.
Severe wind, cold and rain may affect quarterbacks and kickers most, boosting a team’s running attempts. That said, you almost never want to bench your studs over weather concerns. Offensive players have to deal with a slippery pigskin and poor field conditions, but unlike defenders, they know where they are going. Defenders have to react to cuts and jukes. Explosive direction shifts lead to spinouts and open receivers/running lanes.
A few years ago, we received permission from Accuweather.com to link to the weather from each of the NFL stadium cities. Click the links on the chart to go to www.accuweather.com’s forecast for the stadium. As it always is with weather forecasts, skies can change in a second so check the weather the day before or the day of the game to get the most accurate information.
This week we have four teams on bye, the Browns, Saints, Giants and Steelers. That takes some huge names off the board — Odell Beckham Jr., Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown to name few — along with the top rushing defense to target and two of the passing defenses to target.
