Usually we try to provide a bunch of information to back up our statements. This is not one of those times.
Like 24’s Jack Bauer, “I’m running out of time” so I’ve got some quick hits about some major things going on around fantasy baseball on Wednesday/early Thursday:
Andre Ethier — Will rehab this weekend and will wear a splint on his pinkie when he returns. He said when he got hurt that the pinkie finger-bat connection is an important part of his swing. We’ll have to see how the splint affects his performance.
Nelson Cruz — Strained his left hamstring in the ninth inning Wednesday. No, it’s not a recurrence. The last injury that DL’d him was a (right hamstring). No word yet on the severity. Yahoo’s reporting that he had it iced after the game.
Curtis Granderson — Will return Friday if there are no hitches in his rehab game today. Hopefully, he hits better than he did before the injury.
Stephen Strasburg — The hype… It’s suffocating… Yahoo and MLB.com are reporting Strasburg will debut June 8 against the Pirates. The Washington Post, however, reports the Nationals have not set a time for his release into the wild.
Andrew Cashner — Cubs prospect will move to the bullpen in AAA Iowa. Cashner missed the cut on a daily update a few days ago. He was perfect through four innings. The 2008 first-rounder struck out seven in seven shutout innings. The move to the bullpen reflects a June call.
Trevor Hoffman — Threw a perfect seventh on Wednesday. He’ll be the closer again soon, if he isn’t by the time you read this.
David Wright — Read a Twitter conversation about Wright’s value. He’s striking out too much and it’s killing his average. Yes 30-30 with 100 runs is fantastic, but he was drafted in the second round because people were expecting 25-25 with 100 runs and a .300 average.
Adrian Beltre — Hit a pair of homers and drove in a career-high six. He’s hitting .516 in his last eight games and is the 15th best hitter this month in fantasy baseball. He’s still available in 27% of Yahoo leagues. Check your wire.
Mariano Rivera — A pair of saves on Wednesday. Nothing else, it’s just rare a player earns two saves in the same day.
Jose Reyes — Had his fourth straight multi-hit game, homering and driving in two runs on Wednesday. He says his legs feel 100 percent and his at-bats are reflecting those remarks.
Rajai Davis — Scored twice and stole three bases to give him 18 on the season. That total ties him with Juan Pierre for tops in the majors. He’s 5-for-11 with 4 runs and 5 steals in his last four games. Last season he was hitting .146 at the end of May and .229 as late as June 29 and finished at .305. He’s hitting .258 right now and is available in 56% of Yahoos.
Jacoby Ellsbury — Tests reviewed Wednesday reveal no breaks in Jacoby Ellsbury’s ribs, but don’t be surprised if he ends up back on the DL anyway. He’s talking about pain running along his ribs and to his spine.
Prince Fielder — On a tear. Dude’s hitting .328 with five homers and 10 RBI in his last 20 games. That’s 40-homer, 80-RBI pace. If that’s the case he won’t be Missing from the Top 50 for long.
Homer Bailey — The team “isn’t taking any chances,” but Bailey says his shoulder’s fine. I’m not surprised Bailey’s feeling better. We’ll see if it “flares up” again if he struggles in his next start.
