The Sooners offensive line was not good in 2009, leaving Bradford unprotected. He only played three games, hurting his throwing shoulder in the season opener against BYU then suffering a season-ending injury to the same shoulder against Texas.

Despite all of that, Bradford is still the first skill player to come off the board in most early mock drafts.

Most of the projections have Bradford, 6-4, 223-pounds, coming off the board at No. 4 overall to the Redskins.

Other draft experts have him going sixth to the Seahawks or, in one case dropping all the way to the Bills at No. 9.

To the Redskins

Since the consensus has him going to Washington let’s talk about that. New coach Mike Shanahan hit a home run with Jay Cutler in Denver, so don’t be surprised if he tries to get a new QB of his own to run the show for the Redskins.

Bradford is a perfect choice for a team still feeling out the Jason Campbell situation because the rookie is considered a project.

The Bradford Project

At Oklahoma, Bradford ran a spread offense. While he was super accurate in 2008, his sharpshooting skills went down when the pressure got turned up in his 3 games in 2009.

Bradford never turned his back to the defense on play-action fakes or handoffs in college. It will be a big adjustment, one that many quarterbacks just never make.

Still, many experts believe that while Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen is more NFL-ready now, Bradford has more potential. He has great football intelligence. Bradford’s height — he’s considered a little slender — and that extreme accuracy in 2008 also have scouts drooling.

Bradford’s college statistics:

2007 — 237-341-1, 3,121 yards, 36 TDs

2008 — 328-483-8, 4,720 yards, 50 TDs

2009 — 39-69-2,  562 yards, 2 TDs
