Readers returning from previous years probably remember receiver matchups being posted. This is the first one for this season. I use Football Outsiders’ Defense vs. Receiver types chart to determine these rankings. As suggested on that post, I use the yards allowed to the position as opposed to the DVOA ranking.

This week I’m changing things up a bit. We’ve been using year-old Defense-adjusted Value Over Average for the first few weeks. Last week, we looked at both 2014 and 2015 DVOA in an attempt to gain a bit of an edge. Now this week I’ve added in fantasy points allowed.
Tight ends have a short shelf life. It takes most of them a number of years to mature — pass- and run-blocking schemes and routes take time to learn. They enter their prime around age 27. Then by age 31, they’re already on a steep decline.
Multiple sets of statistics — including season-long and last-five-weeks — are used to determine the best and worst matchups of the week. When multiple sets of statistics all point us in the same direction it increases our confidence in them.
Matchups should strongly influence your decisions when playing at daily fantasy sites like FanDuel and Draft Kings. They also influence our projections and rankings at Chinstrap Ninjas.
