Three potential fantasy baseball busts at shortstop in 2010
In such a thin field, any shortstop bust is going to hurt a fantasy team in 2010.
Of course, a couple players will outproduce their ranking too. These things tend to level out. But, how do we know which players to avoid in 2010? Let’s take a look at four candidates.
If you could animate your draft list, you should put red flags, flashing lights and sirens around Jose Reyes‘ name. He has such talent, but he may miss the first month of the season and who knows if this thyroid issue will affect his production when he returns.
Jason Bartlett is another top shortstop option who could provide disappointment points in 2010. He’ll start out hitting leadoff, but he took over that duty at age 31. It’s not likely Bartlett matches his output from last season, making him a scary option here. If he relinquishes leadoff duties, Bartlett probably loses 15-20 runs making him completely overrated at this spot.
At a declining and injury-prone age 33, there’s no way Rafael Furcal matches his expectation as one of the top 9 second basemen. I’d take Asdrubal, Elvis, Yunel or Alcides first and never look back.
