In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by attendance you haven’t, no matchup rankings this week.
Instead, you’re going to have to gorge on some extra large bottles of six-pack this week.
Cedric Benson, Darren McFadden, Brandon Jacobs, Matt Forte, Steve Slaton, Glen Coffee and Julius Jones have great matchups this week…
… But there’s plenty of other news and talking points for running backs around the league:
LaDainian Tomlinson is due back, but I’m not starting him yet.
Rashard Mendenhall will start in Pittsburgh this week. I drafted him in a couple leagues, I’m also starting him in a couple, too.
Felix Jones is out, Marion Barber is due back in Dallas. I’m not starting Barber, but I am starting Tashard Choice where I have to because of byes in a bad matchup against Denver.
Kevin Smith is questionable, wants to play and is active today. It’s a risk I’m not taking today. I’ll probably pay for it, but Chicago’s run defense is a bad matchup anyway.
Picked up Ahmad Bradshaw in a salary cap league. Despite his injury, I think he’s a good play against Kansas City. Maybe better than Jacobs.
I’ve seen Willis McGahee listed as a bad play on several sites. I don’t buy it. I’m going to play him until he takes a dump on my team. Probably happens this week.
Marshawn Lynch is back. I wouldn’t start him until we see something, but I’m keeping Fred Jackson in my lineups.
Call me crazy – and really, you should – but I’ve got a weird feeling Thomas Jones has 100 yards and a score this week. Also from the crazy department, Darren McFadden gets 20 carries and 150 yards.
Belch, that was a thick first serving, time to crack open the second
Surprised to find Mike Sims-Walker and Kevin Walter available in so many leagues this morning.
Mike Sims-Walker was awesome in both games he’s played so far. Kevin Walter was great in the only game he’s played.
These are the pickups that need to be made now, before they have another good game this week.
These findings tell me that more people need to include the advice at Chinstrap Ninjas in their studies if they want to win.
I’ll just check the waiver wi… BRENT CELEK!
I realize that a lot of fantasy owners drop a player on bye and pick up someone else, but Brent Celek?
Depending on your scoring system he’s the No. 1 or No. 2 tight end in fantasy football so far this year. You can’t drop him on bye like you wouldn’t drop Tony Gonzalez or Jason Witten.
Insanity. In the league where I found him, I already have Dallas Clark. Barring injury, I’ll play Celek on Clark’s bye and that’s it. The more important part of this equation: It’s a defensive move. Celek’s not going to help beat me.
Another important piece of advice from this move, alwaysalwaysalways check your waiver wire when you set your lineup. You never know what you’ll find.
It’s Week 4, where’s your team at?
This is an important time in the season. There are going to be some teams well on their way to the playoffs and many that are going to have to fight hard to make the postseason.
What side of the fence is your team sitting on? If you’re 0-3 or 1-2 and lose another one, you might want to think about making a couple major moves to your team. Sell someone low if you can find a taker. You can’t wait for LT to bounce back.
Similarly, if you sniped Darren Sproles or Mario Manningham off waivers, dump them for more reliable options.
Monday Night Football will be awesome
Not only do we get the Brett Favre vs. Green Bay thing, we get a ton of important fantasy players in this game.
Adrian Peterson, Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Percy Harvin, Greg Jennings, Ryan Grant, Favre, Vikings D/ST and Visanthe Shiancoe will decide a lot of fantasy matchups under the lights in the final game of the week.
Saints vs. Jets is the No. 2 awesome game this week
Maybe it won’t have the same fantasy implications as the Monday night game, but I want to see Drew Brees’ aerial assault vs. the Jets dominating defense. That should be some great football.
That’s all for now. Check back tomorrow for the Day of Reckoning, when we talk about the fantasy surprises and disappointments from today’s game.
