Week 6 tournament-only plays at Draft Kings and FanDuel

I really cut down on my cash game list this week. You’ll find a couple cash game-type plays in this list. I moved them over here, however, because they are either hurt or they haven’t been performing as well as I deem necessary to consider them “safe.”

While we want safety in cash games, we can roll the dice a bit in tournaments. We want massive upside if we’re going to take down a tournament.

I believe there’s a misconception around the industry about contrarian plays and upside. Contrarian plays are low-owned players. In order to take down a large tournament you usually need at least one low-owned player who exceeds his sleeper value. You don’t, however, need a roster full of contrarian plays.

One will do. If one or two contrarian players allows you to get a pile of chalk plays and a top-tier quarterback in your lineup, then that could make your lineup just different enough from everyone else’s to win. One or two contrarian players might also change your roster construction to force you to take a few just-under-the-chalk plays who have a bit more upside.

Contrarian plays aren’t only about their own value — which you also need to win a tournament — but they are more about forcing you to zag while most of the players in the tournament zig.

Here are my top tournament-only plays for Week 6.
