Week 8 wide receiver 2 matchups: Sleepers and busts

A different method was used to put together this week’s matchups.

The lists start with Football Outsiders’ excellent Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average. After comparing DVOA, yards per game and receptions per game and all of the multiple variants that can be made with those three statistics, it became clear DVOA was a statistic that should play a part in our rankings.

Next, I went to fantasy points allowed charts over at FFtoday.com and added them to the list. So teams whose FFPG against conflict with DVOA have been removed from the ranking.

As I mentioned last week, these matchups are essentially boom or bust start/sit rankings.

Week 8 matchups: PASS RUN WR1 | WR2 | WR3/4 | TE | RB (rec.)

Passing matchups for Week 8:

Top matchups

A.J. Jenkins vs. St. Louis — The Rams allow 28.1 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. I have to feel like Dwayne Bowe gets quite a few of those points, but Jenkins is a good sleeper option at the position this week.

Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Tampa Bay

Randall Cobb vs. New Orleans

Jermaine Kearse vs. Carolina

Percy Harvin/Jeremy Kerley vs. Buffalo

Michael Floyd vs. Philadelphia — Floyd is one of my top plays this week. I’ll have him in cash games and tournaments.

Brandon Tate vs. Baltimore

Terrence Williams vs. Washington — This could be a sneaky good play. The Redskins are allowing 24.7 fantasy points per game to wide receivers and the Redskins have given up a pile of yards to WR2s.

Bad matchups

Markus Wheaton vs. Indianapolis

Steve Smith vs. Cincinnati

Roddy White vs. Detroit

Cecil Shorts III vs. Miami

The New York Giants are on bye

Denver played on Thursday

Brandin Cooks vs. Green Bay

Mike Evans vs. Minnesota

San Diego played on Thursday
